The Artist role can be very powerful. A visual can be emotionally compelling, packed with information, psychologically persuasive and defended with passion. In light of the United States current political climate, I have been very keen on the role of the artist. Not only am I using  my art to process and protest the new administration but I have been following how other artists are using their “voice” (visual voice, written voice, and performance voice) to make their own impact. Just like our actual voice, the visual voice takes many forms. Sometimes it whispers, other times it sings and often it screams. 

ARTIST TIPS FOR THE MOTIVATED

If you are an artist or aspiring creative use your art to truly reflect your voice. And use that voice to speak about what is current and important to you. Artists are the keepers of culture so play your part.

Easy Like a Sunday Morning

THE CREATIVE LIFE FOR THE  CURIOUS

It is Sunday morning. I am sitting at the Market, in Denver CO. My favorite spot…..maybe in the world. It always has a buzz to it. peoples voices, music, the whirling fans from the kitchen, trays and chairs clanging. Yet, it is warm and cozy, home away from home. I know I can nurse my chai, sketch, read or research on my computer all day long and I will not be asked to leave. It is where I can be alone in a crowd- a sensation - I have always found fascinating. Being alone in a crowd is alienating and inclusive, I am included and on the outside. I am an artist, I am an observer. 

As an observer I examine my  world, my culture, looking for how lines, color shape, perspective make up the buzz. It is not enough to absorb only visual references, I must also tune into 

emotions and feelings, relationships of people and objects.  As the observer I am looking for ways to visually represent the space I am in or I am looking for visual collateral to be used in an abstract, or unfinished piece of art.  I start as the observer - then I create - then you become the observer of what I create.

Here is a bit about me. I promote empowerment through creativity. I am a metal and multi-media sculptor. I combine my painting and sculpture background to produce relevant work that speaks about empowerment of the individual and community.  I am a native of Denver, Colorado, and currently live in Colorado and Ohio. I established Pattie Byron Studios for my work in metal and other mediums, and for the past several years I have  maintained a studio at the Pendleton Art Center - Studio 411. My industrial studio is in Fairfield, Oh. I also hold Art Workshops, Retreats and Interactive Lectures in my Pendleton studio and at outside locations.  I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Drawing, Painting and Sculpture and a Minor in Art History. I am passionate about Art and love sharing and lifting people up through my creativity.
